Annual Professional Development (our most popular option)

Annual professional development is the most popular way for schools and districts to work with Mossflower. Typically, this option consists of having one Staff Developer conduct on-site professional development across the school year. Most schools select seven professional development days for each grade band: K-2, 3-5, and 6-8.

Bonus: Schools who select this option also receive access to the Mossflower Learning Community, monthly Leadership Conferences, and opportunities to pilot new curricula, as well as access to our Treasure Chest, which is full of regularly updated teaching resources and instructional materials.

Units of Study Day

A one-day conference designed to support teachers with implementing the Units of Study. Sometimes these days introduce teachers to the curriculum as a whole; other times they function as a re-start. Usually, one Staff Developer works with a group of between six and thirty teachers in grades K-2, 3-5, or 6-8.

Week-Long Homegrown Institute

Four to five consecutive days of on-site professional development tailored to the priorities and goals of a school or district. Homegrown Institutes often take place during the summer months.

Advanced Special Topic Day

Schools that are ready to learn more about a specific topic can request a day, or a sequence of days, on almost any topic. Topics often requested include:

  • Rebalancing Balanced Literacy: Integrating the Science of Reading into the Reading Workshop

  • Using Decodable Texts to Support Early Readers

  • Small Group Work and Toolkits: Accelerating Growth in Readers or Writers

  • Responsive Grammar and Conventions

  • Working with Readers or Writers Who Are Significantly Below Benchmark

  • Incorporating Test Prep Across the School Year
